Course Overview
Provide in-depth training on mitral valve surgery. Presentations will address indications, decision making process, image tools and techniques and outcomes in a large variety of mitral pathologies.
Observe and comment upon live and live-in-a-box cases presented by our keynote faculty and participate in three skills workshops on Tuesday morning.
GROUP A: Six views that will remain with you a lifetime
The essentials for a comprehensive analysis of the mitral valve with echocardiography will be reviewed. You will learn the 6 “must” views of the mitral valve that you will never forget and that will provide you with a systematic echo evaluation. All you need to know about the echo of the mitral view to ensure an adequate roadmap and quality control for your surgical repair.
GROUP B: WET LAB
Implantation of different annuloplasty rings, artificial chordae and performance of the most common specific techniques will be dealt on site in a wetlab setting. You will experience tips and tricks of each implant and learn how to deal with different approaches.
GROUP C: Preparing the patient and the techniques for a minimally invasive approach
Different techniques and approaches for surgical mitral valve repair will be exposed. From basic to some advanced and from open sternotomy to minimally invasive surgery techniques will be discussed with experts on the field. You will understand advantages and limitations and learn which are the requirements for performing each one.
Course Format
Invited presentations, live case transmissions from the Hospital Clinic Barcelona, live in a box videos, three workshops including case reports, a wetlab and simulator session.
Target Audience
Cardiac surgeons and residents, interested in advancing their mitral repair techniques.
Learning Objectives
The 2 days will address knowledge and technical skills. Surgeons should feel comfortable to use learning’s in own environment upon completion of course/programme
